A Lagos State Magistrate Court has remanded a 26-year-old woman, Favour Unachukwu, at Kirikiri Correctional Center for allegedly bitting and injuring a Police Inspector, Ogunbodede Taiwo, who is attached to the Isolo Division, while he was performing his duties on a highway.
The incident occurred at Cele Link Bridge in the Isolo area of Lagos, where Inspector Taiwo was on duty. He reportedly accosted Unachukwu for an undisclosed offence on the road.
During their encounter, an argument ensued, during which Unachukwu allegedly attacked the officer, held his hand, and inflicted injuries on him by biting.
Other police officers present at the scene intervened and arrested Unachukwu for allegedly assaulting their colleague.
Following her arrest, Unachukwu was charged before a Lagos Magistrate Court in Isolo. During the court proceedings, she pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Inspector Solomon, the prosecutor, requested that the court set a hearing date to allow the police to present evidence proving that Unachukwu committed the alleged offence.
Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. I. O. Williams, granted Unachukwu bail on the condition that she provides two sureties who can demonstrate evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment. The sureties’ addresses will be verified by the court.
The case was adjourned for mention, and Unachukwu was remanded in custody at Kirikiri Correctional Center until she meets her bail conditions.
