Engineer Waheed Ariyo Wahab, a Safety Officer with the Lagos State Safety Commission, has said that he did not interview any staff of Agege stadium during investigation on the root cause of the incident that led to the death of Whitney Adeniran, a student of the Chrisland School.
The prosecution witness stated this while being cross examined by the Ademola Animashaun, counsel to the fourth defendant.
He stated this at the continuation of the ongoing matter before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.
The witness told the court, “We had a pre-information that she died of electrocution. We heard the news but went there to know whether it is true.
“I didn’t have the information that the deceased was suspected to have died due to health cause.
“I didn’t say we went there to unravel electrocution but to unravel the root cause of death.
He further told the court that he is unaware whether Agege Stadium had an emergency management system, emergency
communication, retainer hospital, a fire fighting equipment in place at the stadium.
The state government on March 30, 2023, arraigned a Cotton Candy vendor, Ademoye Adewale, the school’s instructor Kuku Fatai, the principal of the school Belinda Amao, the school Nurse Victoria Nwatu and Chrisland School Limited, over the death of Whitney.
The defendants were charged to court over a-two counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless and negligent acts preferred against them by the Lagos State Government.
In continuation of his evidence on Wednesday Engineer Ariyo further said in the course of investigation by his team, “We did not take an electrical engineer with us. I am a mechanical engineer.
Earlier, when Richard Aho, SAN was holding brief for the defence counsel to the fourth defendant before Animashaun took over the cross examination, the witness claimed he does not know the defendant, nor does he know her name, but stated that he had seen the defendant in the agency.
The trial judge, Justice Ogala adjourned the matter to January 29, 2025 for continuation.
