Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has awarded 18 Hajj seats, 18 Certificates of Occupancy, and a total of N12 million in cash prizes to the outstanding winners of the 39th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition and the Al-Yatama Orphanage Foundation contestants.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to promoting Islamic scholarship and rewarding excellence.
Among the highlights of the event was the governor’s announcement of fully funded scholarships to Al-Azhar University, Egypt, for Buhari Sunusi Idris and Fatima Abubakar Lawan, the top winners of the prestigious competition.
In addition, the overall champion, Buhari Sunusi Idris, received a cheque of N2 million, a Hajj seat, and a plot of land, while the female winner and the second- and third-place winners each received N1 million, a Hajj seat, and a plot of land in recognition of their remarkable achievements.
Furthermore, participants from the Al-Yatama Orphanage Foundation, who represented Kano at the competition in Jigawa State, were generously rewarded with N500,000 and N200,000, depending on their rankings, alongside Hajj seats for each contestant.
Governor Yusuf also honored the teachers and mentors who played a crucial role in shaping these champions by awarding each of them a Hajj seat and a plot of land, acknowledging their dedication to nurturing the next generation of Qur’anic scholars.
In his remarks, the District head of Gobirawa Dan Amar Kano Alhaji Aliyu Harazumi Umar who represented the Emir of Kano, expressed deep appreciation for the governor’s unwavering support, particularly in facilitating Kano’s successful participation in the competition held in Kebbi State.
Similarly, the National Chairman of the Qur’anic Recitation Competition board of trustees, Wazirin Sokoto Prof. Sambo Jinaidu, represented by Gwani Mukhtar Al-Hafiz, praised Governor Yusuf’s commitment to Islamic scholarship and Qur’anic propagation, congratulating Kano State for emerging as the overall winner of the 2024 competition.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s resolve to further strengthen religious education, inspire young talents, and uphold Kano’s leadership in Qur’anic scholarship across the nation.
