•Strikes Out Illegal Firearms Charge Against Him
The Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed the illegal firearm possession charges that were brought by the Federal Government against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The decision came after an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar, to withdraw the two charges.
Abubakar cited Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, as the basis for the withdrawal.
Despite objections from the defense, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, while criticizing the government’s behavior, granted the application, stating that the prosecution’s actions displayed a lack of respect for the rule of law.
