The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an illegal cybercrime training facility, commonly known as a “Yahoo School,” operating in the Iju area of Lagos.
In a major crackdown, police detectives arrested four suspected masterminds of the fraudulent operation: Chibuike Ihejika (23), Stanley Ihejika (22), Obiora Oyediba (26), and Emmanuel Oyedibe (25).
Additionally, six trainees undergoing cybercrime training at the facility were apprehended.
They include Okorie Henry, Otoh Chisom (20), Okeke Kwufrochikwu (26), Uchenna Obeji (26), Minachi Udochukwu (12), and Chinedu Ukachukwu (23).
A statement signed by the Command’s Spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said, preliminary investigations revealed that the ringleaders recruited their trainees from Anambra State, engaging them in internet fraud and related crimes.
“The principal suspects allegedly seized all fraudulent proceeds from their recruits, exploiting them for financial gain.
“All 10 suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers involved in the operation for their dedication and professionalism.
He assured Lagosians that the Command remains resolute and committed to combating all forms of crime, including cybercrime often tagged as “yahoo.”
CP Jimoh urged residents to report any suspicious activities or incidents in their communities promptly, emphasizing that vigilance is key to preventing such criminal operations.
He however advised Parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children to prevent them from being exploited or lured into criminal activities. B
