•Justice Ariwoola takes over as new CJN
There are indications that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad has resigned his appointment.
Sources have hinted that Justice Muhammad resignation is based on health grounds.
Dr Reuben Abati, the anchor of Morning Show on Arise Television also reported the resignation, referring to “two credible sources”.
Also, another another source gave reasons for the resignation of Justice Tanko who took over from Justice Walter Onnoghen resigned is because he has recently been under attack as a result of controversial circumstances engrossed in crisis over his alleged mismanagement of the Apex Court funds.
Although, he denied the allegation, but keen watcher argued that he might have lost the control of the Apex Court.
The petition from his brother Justices is considered a vote of no confidence in his leadership.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari is said to be expected to swear Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) today following the resignation of Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad on health grouds.
Justice Ariwoola who the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court will be sworn-in today by 2pm, according to competent sources.
Born on 22 August 1958, Justice Ariwoola was formerly a Justice of the Court of Appeal and was elevated to the Supreme Court bench.
