The conference is scheduled to take place at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos from July 5th to 7th.
During a press briefing held on Wednesday, Mrs. Ayoyinka Olajide-Awosedo, the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee and Treasurer of the council, unveiled the program for the conference. She highlighted that the theme of the conference is “The Nigeria Business Landscape: Priorities of Law, Policy, and Regulation.”
Olajide-Awosedo emphasized that one of the main objectives of the conference is to set an agenda for revitalizing the economy under the new government. She stated, “The conference will also focus on the necessary regulations to revive our economy and attract investors by creating a favorable environment for talent.”
“As legal professionals, we understand the impact of various laws on the economy, and as such, we aim to gather relevant stakeholders, industry regulators, and policymakers to explore ways to propel our economy forward,” she further explained.
“In addition, we will discuss how Nigeria can align itself with developed countries by exploring the influence of technology,” she added.
Olajide-Awosedo also announced that besides the sessions and networking opportunities, a regulatory clinic will be organized, and 25 young lawyers will be sponsored to attend the conference.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the conference aims to examine recent developments in the Nigerian business law landscape and their impact on businesses, while also identifying strategies to facilitate business growth.
As part of the conference activities, a “lawyers got talent competition” has been organized, offering a cash prize to the winner.
Olajide-Awosedo emphasized that the conference provides a platform for stakeholders in the Nigerian business environment to address issues that affect the business ecosystem and, consequently, the businesses operating within it.
In his welcome address, Dr. Adeoye Adefulu, the Chairman of SBL, expressed the council’s strong interest and numerous achievements in driving the country’s economic development. Adefulu stated that the conference will bring together experts from both the public and private sectors, business lawyers, and other stakeholders in the business law field to discuss the revival of regulations within the economic sector.
“We have ongoing regulatory interventions, and we have also arranged internship programs for lawyers with regulatory agencies,” he noted.
Mr. Oludare Sembore, the Chairman of the Program and Content Sub Committee, announced that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will be the special guest of honor and chief host, along with other distinguished guests from the global economic sector.
“The NBA President, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, (SAN), and other senior members of the legal profession will also be in attendance. Additionally, senior members of the bar, the bench, and the chief economist from KPMG will grace the conference,” he revealed.
Sembore further disclosed the participation of international speakers, including Dr. Folashade Adeyemo, an assistant professor at the University of Liverpool, and Dr. Temi Popoola, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Exchange Ltd, who will serve as panelists.
He concluded by mentioning that the conference will also address topics related to agriculture, business, entertainment, and other pertinent subjects.
Since its establishment in 2004, the NBA-SBL conference has consistently served as a platform for decision-makers in the public and private sectors, policy formulators, regulators, and industry practitioners, offering solutions to the various challenges that hinder business growth.
