A visually impaired man, Francis Ugachukwu, has been remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja. He is facing charges of alleged defilement involving a 13-year-old girl, whose identity has been withheld.
Justice Abiola Soladoye ordered the remand of the defendant pending the hearing and filing of his bail application after his arraignment.
The case has been adjourned until October 18 to hear the bail application and commence the trial.
Ugachukwu was charged with one count of defilement, to which he pleaded not guilty.
According to the state counsel, Ms Abimbola Abolade, the defendant allegedly committed the offense in November 2022 at No. 16 Kareem Giwa St., Abule-Osun, Ojoo, Lagos.
If found guilty, the offense carries a punishment of life imprisonment.
The prosecution stated that the offense is in violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
